Indigeonous Trees recomended for George ravines

Thank you Glenwood House Ecology club for cleaning a section
of the Katrivier.
The afternoon was very informative were we learned that:
1        The water quality needs to be improved,
as no light can penetrate the water for
                       living organisims to live.
2        The invasive alien vegetation such as
                       the black wattle needs constant
                       erradication
                       and we must rehabilitate with
                       indigneous plants.
3        The river channel needs clearing of
dead tree stumps in order to create a
linear flow of water that has less erosive
                       effect on the river banks.
4        Acsess is very difficult and perhaps
                       paths would allow easier maintanance
                       of the river.

This is a photo of an African Red Alder/ Rooiels also known as
the butterspoon tree. They are one of the fastest growing forest
trees if not planted in the open.

The Katrivier looking like blood!!! This we have uncovered is because the Water Works is pumping effluent down the Michelle Stream from Eleventh Avenue in Denneoord. Dwaf came to investigate and found the water quality unacceptable. They are testing samples we have taken on the 22 October 2008.
Thank you Patrick van Coller. Test results will be posted here shortly.
